Book Summary of The Mountain of the Moon Chander Pahar

The Mountain of the Moon: Chander Pahar
by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay
Book Summary of The Mountain of the moon: Chander Pahar:

On The One Hand it is the story of Shankar, a boy from a remote village in Bengal, who dreams of conquering The Mountain of the Moon in Africa. On the other, it is the tale of Diego Alvarez, the intrepid explorer, and his lifelong quest for the elusive diamond mines in the heart of the Richtersveldt Mountains. The weaving of these two characters, set apart by age and geography, creates one of the most gripping tales of adventure and of the triumph of the human spirit. Bibhutibhushan`s fascinating tale is a salute to all those who dare to dream and are able to turn their dreams into reality.

About the Author:

Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay (1894-1950) - occupies a unique place in the literary firmament of Bengal. Much renowned for his novels Pather Panchali and Aparajito (adapted on screen as the Apu Trilogy by the internationally acclaimed filmmaker Satyajit Ray), Bibhutibhushans forte has been his portrayal of man in the midst of Nature. A schoolteacher by profession, he was drawn by the beauty of rural Bengal and the forests of Bengal and Bihar. In many of his novels: Drishtipradip, Aranyak, Ichhamati, Ashani Sanket: Nature, presented sometimes as a friend, sometimes as an adversary, forms the backdrop for his stories: sagas of mans struggle, his success and his humanity.

The original Bengali novel, Chander Pahar, was first published in the year 1937.
